CyberGhost VPN Review 2026: Is it as Good as it Claims to Be?

Cyberghost Review
© 01net.com

CyberGhost is a leading force in the world of affordable VPNs. It started way back in 2011 in Romania, intending to improve online privacy and security that was, at the time, and now especially, endangered. Since then, the VPN continues to improve and bring a full-featured, yet affordable service for all devices.

In this CyberGhost review 2026, we will examine it thoroughly and see how good (and secure) it actually is. If you’re considering this affordable VPN, we suggest you don’t go anywhere. This is an in-depth CyberGhost VPN review, and in the end, you will have answers to all your questions.

Without further ado, let’s delve deeper into this analysis and discuss CyberGhost’s pros and cons.

CyberGhost User Experience and Device Support

Once you subscribe to CyberGhost, you’ll need to install its application. It is a vital part of your user experience. Thankfully, in this CyberGhost review, you’ll see that its user experience is great, with a few caveats.

📱 Desktop and Mobile Apps Reviewed

Being a premium VPN, CyberGhost supports all devices and platforms you can think of. All desktop and mobile platforms are on the list, with native, regularly updated clients. For those in a hurry, here are all supported desktop and mobile systems:

  • Windows (incl. Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Chrome extensions)
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • iOS and Android phones and tablets

CyberGhost looks almost identical regardless of which platform you’re on. You’re greeted by the Favorites window. The connection button always resides on the right-hand side and connects you promptly. You can also minimize the app and make it a small vertical window, similar to ExpressVPN.

On Android and iOS, CyberGhost is easy to use (this is partly why we rank it among the best VPNs on Android). However, some users will complain that it doesn’t look modern. It allows one-click connections. Pick the VPN location, click on the button to the right, and it’ll turn yellow when it connects.

Mobile users can connect to any of the servers by tapping the country under the connection button. By the way, CyberGhost has improved its connection speed in 2026. Its server list is also comprehensive, allowing you to choose city-based servers and see their distance from your location for the best speeds.

Cyberghost Review Mobile App

What we don’t like is how the VPN manages its features. They’re scattered all across the app – in Privacy Settings, Smart Rules, and the Settings menu accessible through a cogwheel in the bottom-left part.

Cyberghost App Privacy Settings
© 01net.com

Here, you’ll find the choice of protocols, but if you want to enable a kill switch or an ad-blocker, you need to do so through Privacy Settings. It’s all a bit perplexing.

📺 TV and Streaming Device Apps

In this CyberGhost review and test, we must mention TV apps. You can find native apps for Amazon Fire TV Stick, Android TV, and all Smart TVs. If you’re interested, we have a tutorial explaining how to install and configure CyberGhost on a Fire TV Stick. CyberGhost even supports Apple TV with a native app. Given its Android TV support, the service can also be installed on the Nvidia Shield TV.

🎮 Gaming Console Support

Gaming console enthusiasts can use CyberGhost on PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox consoles by connecting the VPN to a router. However, you can also get away with SmartDNS, which doesn’t require a direct VPN setup. For a service this affordable, CyberGhost’s gaming support is more than decent.

🛜 Router Support

Admittedly, setting up a VPN on your router takes a bit of experience and isn’t as simple as it sounds. However, CyberGhost supports several versions of router firmware. These include Tomato, DD-WRT, and TomatoUSB Merlin Build. You’ll find in-depth step-by-step guides for setup, so you don’t have to be an IT specialist.

You’ll agree that router support isn’t as impressive as it is on NordVPN. However, bear in mind that CyberGhost supports Raspberry Pi, Synology NAS, and other non-VPN devices. This makes it versatile and usable on every device you can think of. So far, we have a great start to this CyberGhost VPN review.

CyberGhost Pricing Review: Is It Affordable?

It’s time to discuss pricing in this CyberGhost VPN review. Believe it or not, this is among the cheapest premium VPNs of this caliber, with insanely low prices for this level of quality. Don’t believe us? Well, take a look at CyberGhost pricing. The lowest price you’re going to get always hovers around $2.03 a month.

The biennial plan usually offers 4 free months, resulting in a price of $56.94 for the initial period. This and the six-month plan have a 45-day money-back guarantee. The monthly plan gets a 14-day money-back guarantee. Even if you add an antivirus and security updater for $1, the VPN will never be too expensive.

Please note that you do not need to apply a discount code to your CyberGhost order. Click on the button below to get the best offers available at the moment. For special occasions, the VPN also offers exceptional deals. CyberGhost offers promotions for Black Friday, Halloween, Christmas, and more.

Get the Cheapest Deal on CyberGhost

💳 Available Payment Methods

Paying for your subscription won’t be too complex. CyberGhost supports three payment methods, including credit/debit cards, PayPal, and Bitcoin. Before making the purchase, you can buy a dedicated IP for $2.5 a month and get free Privacy Guard, ID Guard, and Mac Cleaner.

↩️ How to Get a Refund from CyberGhost?

If you don’t like CyberGhost or you no longer need it, you can get a refund within the money-back period. That is either the first 14 or 45 days of your purchase. It’s easy to get your money back by requesting a refund via live chat or email. Once done, the customer support team will tackle your request.

If you use PayPal, you’ll receive the money immediately. VISA or debit card users will have to wait for about two working days to get the money back. As for Bitcoin, you’ll usually get your money back within a few hours, as CyberGhost doesn’t exclude crypto payments from its refund policy.

Is CyberGhost VPN Safe? Security Features Examined

This is what makes or breaks a VPN, so CyberGhost is in for a brutal test. Our CyberGhost review for 2026 wouldn’t be complete without this part, so let’s examine its security features and see what they’re about. Want a short answer? CyberGhost is safe and filled with many advanced security features.

🧬 256-bit AES Encryption

CyberGhost protects your connection with 256-bit AES encryption. You’ll hear this term a lot when researching VPNs, as it’s a staple of every secure provider. For comparison, this encryption is used by banks and governments.  Therefore, with CyberGhost, your connection is 100% secure and untraceable.

🕹️ Automatic Kill Switch

A VPN cannot be safe and secure without an automatic kill switch. While testing it for this CyberGhost review, we deliberately closed its app in the Task Manager and kept our browser window open. When we tried to refresh the page, the browser informed us that we were offline, indicating that the kill switch worked.

An automatic kill switch will shut down your internet connection if a VPN connection is lost. Without a VPN connection, your IP is exposed, and you’re left without encryption or any security. When we used CyberGhost normally, without all the shenanigans, we experienced zero connection issues, however.

🕵🏻‍♂️ NoSpy Servers

Another interesting feature in this CyberGhost VPN review is NoSpy Servers. NoSpy servers are all in Romania (Bucharest), where CyberGhost is based. This is because these are the company’s proprietary, self-governing servers without third-party access. VPNs have a server network that spans across the globe.

Cyberghost Nospy Servers
© 01net.com

However, they pay third-party server owners for them. CyberGhost went the opposite way and designed 20+ servers under its ownership and the non-invasive privacy laws of Romania, hence their name. When using them, you get the highest level of privacy with CyberGhost’s rock-solid security and no-logging practices. This is great if you plan on visiting the dark web anonymously or using the Tor Browser.

🔀 Exceptions (Split Tunneling)

Split tunneling makes its way to CyberGhost under the name of Exceptions. It’s buried in the Smart Rules menu, but once you find it, it’s easy to use it. However, it’s website-based and not app-based, as in many other providers. This means that you can exclude only certain websites from using the VPN.

Cyberghost Exceptions Split Tunneling
© 01net.com

You can exclude your bank’s website, which needs your real location, and let Netflix or BBC iPlayer use a VPN to access them anywhere. Beware that CyberGhost has regular split tunneling only on Android.

🌐 OpenVPN and WireGuard Support

CyberGhost comes with a variety of protocols that include OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2. OpenVPN and IKEv2 are reliable and tested options, but with WireGuard’s arrival, CyberGhost paved its way onto the modern VPN scene. This protocol is simpler and easier to maintain than OpenVPN, having fewer lines of code.

Cyberghost Protocols
© 01net.com

In return, it’s much faster and drastically shortens the connection times. Even better, it’s supported on mobile devices as well. With WireGuard and IKEv2 on iOS, users can still enjoy safe, secure, and fast internet access both on iPhones and iPads, as they both rely on the same excellent system.

🛡️ Privacy Guard

CyberGhost introduced Privacy Guard and became one of the best VPNs for Windows. What does this have to do with Windows? Well, it takes control over your Microsoft settings to protect your privacy. You have three levels: Basic, Advanced, and Custom, where you balance between Microsoft functionalities and privacy.

Cyberghost Privacy Guard
© 01net.com

Privacy Guard disables certain features, such as Bluetooth ads, updates, camera access, app tracking, and others, to help you navigate Microsoft’s intrusive spying. You can apply your new settings with a click. During our CyberGhost review, we mostly used the Basic level with a few customizations that made everything click.

🔒 DNS and IP Leak Protection

Its IP and DNS leak protection is reliable, which you’ll soon see. It will protect IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, unlike other cheap VPNs that neglect your IPv6. The VPN lets you disable all IPv6 connections when connected to a server. If you don’t need local IPv6 connections, you can enable this option and prevent potential leaks.

⛔ Ad and Tracker Blocker

As expected, it won’t block only ads but also trackers, malware, and malicious DNS domains. In this CyberGhost review for 2026, it worked fairly well, but it’s not as powerful as the ad blockers seen in NordVPN and ExpressVPN. Plus, it doesn’t display blocked threats, so sometimes, you don’t know if it really works.

We determined that it worked by smoother page-loading and pages that were rid of ads and some pop-ups on the side. For this reason, CyberGhost is one of the top VPNs that block ads in 2026.

💾 Servers Based on RAM

CyberGhost doesn’t shy away from using RAM-only servers. This is an important feature for additional security, privacy, and performance. Low-cost VPNs have servers based on HDD – a traditional method that doesn’t yield great results. HDD servers are prone to being compromised and having their (your) data stolen.

However, RAM servers wipe their data with each restart, identically to how RAM works on your computer, phone, or laptop. This means no additional logging is going on, and your privacy is increased. Even if a hacker compromises the server, CyberGhost can restart it and wipe all the information, leaving no crumbs.

🔰 Antivirus + Security Updater (Optional)

If you’re willing to pay a bit over a dollar a month, you can get CyberGhost’s antivirus and security updater. Its antivirus works well, offering standard features like in-depth scanning, quarantine, and real-time reports. However, since we don’t use an antivirus, we found its security updater much more useful.

Cyberghost Review Antivirus
© 01net.com

It shows outdated versions of apps on your computer that can make it vulnerable to security threats. From there, you can use CyberGhost to automatically update them with a single click.

CyberGhost IP and DNS Leak Test: Good Results

To finish off this CyberGhost review of security, we need to perform a few DNS and IP leak tests. As always, we’re using ipleak.net, and upon connecting to a US server, we got these results.

Cyberghost Ip Leak 1
© 01net.com

Needless to say, there are no IP and DNS leaks, expected from a VPN this secure. However, to confirm our results, we usually repeat the test with browserleaks.com just to be sure we aren’t lying.

Cyberghost Ip Leak 2
© 01net.com

Once again, CyberGhost shows impressive results, leaking no IP or DNS address from our device. This means that anonymity is guaranteed, making your internet experience with CyberGhost VPN 100% safe and secure, especially with its automatic kill switch that springs into action whenever needed.

Does It Have a No-Logging Policy?

CyberGhost has always had a stellar reputation for its privacy. Its Romanian jurisdiction has to do with that, as this is the country far away from the 5/9/14 Eyes countries. With no data-retention laws, CyberGhost maintains its no-logs policy effortlessly. This is due to Kape Technologies, its parent company.

Kape Technologies is a legitimate corporation with a huge market share in the VPN world, owning ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access. None had privacy issues in the past. Since there’s no such thing as a 100% no-logs VPN, we must see what exactly this provider stores and how it affects your privacy.

🚫 Which Information isn’t Stored?

In its privacy policy, we can see that the VPN stores nothing that could compromise you. CyberGhost won’t store your browsing history, IP address, DNS queries, session duration, connection timestamps, bandwidth usage, etc. All this means that the VPN can’t track your connection and find out what you’re doing online.

📜 Which Information is Stored?

In this CyberGhost VPN review, we found out that the VPN stores nothing important. Your email, username, and payment information are mandatory logs, which CyberGhost must store for the service to function properly. Moreover, it stores logs of your activity on the website, but in an anonymized form.

Cyberghost Review Collected Data

This is needed to improve the website and make it more accessible. Most importantly, it will not share or sell your personal data with third-party entities. Doing so guarantees that user information never gets into the wrong hands. Given Romania’s strict privacy laws, CyberGhost’s no-logging practices are fully supported.

✅ Third-Party Audit

In this CyberGhost review, we also learned that it received a third-party audit from one of the most renowned cybersecurity companies, Deloitte. The audit happened in 2022 and was performed on its no-log policy. That’s great news, particularly because CyberGhost fared well and proved its claims without issues.

Deloitte proved that CyberGhost’s no-logging policy is respected, and no sensitive data was logged. Deloitte also audited NordVPN and Surfshark, two fantastic VPNs with some of the top security and privacy features.

📝 Transparency Reports

CyberGhost has a unique way of gaining trust through its transparency reports, published every three months or four times a year. They outline the number of legal requests, DMCA complaints, police requests, and malicious activity flags.  In addition, they let you access other important bits of information.

For instance, you can see how many servers they have, average bandwidth, and average active connections. CyberGhost lets you learn more about its team and the interesting stuff they experience. In 2021, CyberGhost gave out free subscriptions to the citizens of Cuba during unrest periods.

Cyberghost Review Transparency Report
© CyberGhost

By doing so, the company helped Cuban residents fight off censorship that was still at large. Information like this helps the provider become more trustworthy in the eyes of its users. With downloadable transparency reports, it makes sure you can learn everything about it, leaving no information undiscovered.

Thanks to this practice, CyberGhost proves its focus on privacy and transparency, further bolstered by an audited no-logging policy. That said, we really can’t complain about anything.

CyberGhost Review: Streaming and Netflix Tests

If you plan on using a VPN for streaming, take a look at this CyberGhost review for 2026 further. In this part, we’ll test its streaming capabilities and see how well it works with Netflix and other platforms.

Supported Streaming Platforms
Netflix ✅ Works (US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, etc.)
Hulu ✅ Works
Disney+ ✅ Works
Amazon Prime Video ⚖️ Occasionally blocked (US version works)
BBC iPlayer ✅ Works
DAZN ✅ Works (unblocks multiple catalogs)
Sky Sports ⚖️ Occasionally blocked
YouTube TV ✅ Works
Sling TV ✅ Works

🍿 Does CyberGhost Work on Netflix? Yes, It Does

CyberGhost offers streaming servers optimized for some Netflix libraries. We tested mostly Netflix US with excellent results. However, we didn’t avoid others that were unblocked pretty easily with CyberGhost. In our tests, the VPN worked with around ten libraries, but it’s not as good as our best VPNs for Netflix.

Cyberghost Review Netflix Unblock
© 01net.com (CyberGhost unblocks Netflix Australia abroad)

For instance, ExpressVPN unblocks 10, while NordVPN unblocks over 25. Surfshark, another cheap VPN, unblocks over 30. The good news is that CyberGhost performs well in streaming. In other words, there’s very little buffering, and everything is buttery-smooth, implying its streaming reliability.

▶️ CyberGhost Review on Other Streaming Platforms

CyberGhost works with many other streaming services. For example, watching BBC iPlayer was a breeze once we connected to a dedicated UK streaming server. We used a dedicated Hulu server to try to watch Hulu abroad. Using a US server, we could access Disney+ in our country without a hitch.

Cyberghost Review Bbc Iplayer
© 01net.com (CyberGhost unblocks BBC iPlayer abroad)

The same can be said about Hotstar. With an Indian IP in place, Hotstar works with no issues. As a whole, CyberGhost is a decent performer for all streaming-related tasks. We’d love to see slightly better Netflix unblocking, but even ten popular libraries are a good score, plus, you get access to all the other streamers.

Enjoy Endless Streaming With CyberGhost

CyberGhost Speed Test: Is It Fast in 2026?

CyberGhost’s huge server fleet and WireGuard promise a lot in terms of overall performance. This makes this CyberGhost review of speed interesting. During this review, we tested this VPN thoroughly and got decent results. To make sure the test is valid, we tested the VPN for three days straight, three times a day.

In the morning, during midday, and in the afternoon. As for the server locations, we used the UK, the US, Japan, and Australia. Since we’re in Eastern Europe, only the UK is close, with the other countries being far. Before showing you our test results, here are our native internet speeds and latency:

Native Speed Test
© speedtest.net (Native speed test results, no VPN used)

After testing all server locations multiple times, these are the results we got:

United Kingdom:

Cyberghost Uk Speed Test

United States:

Cyberghost Us Speed Test
© 01net.com

Japan:

Cyberghost Japan Speed Test
© 01net.com

Australia:

Cyberghost Australia Speed Test
© 01net.com

The VPN shows decent performance. In the UK, we saw a small speed reduction, which isn’t noticeable in practice. The US server results are particularly surprising, while the Australian and Japanese servers reduced our performance a bit. Bear in mind our physical distance from these servers, though.

UK Reduction US Reduction Japan Reduction Australia Reduction
📥 DL Speed 14% 28% 39% 41%
📤 UL Speed 6% 18% 7% 6%

On paper, our latency increased a lot, with upload and download speeds taking a slight nosedive. However, in practice, we managed to enjoy the internet seamlessly, with no considerable slowdowns.

🎮 Is CyberGhost Good for Gaming?

Gaming with CyberGhost is straightforward due to dedicated gaming servers. This is not a feature we see often in VPNs. These servers are optimized for better speeds and lower latency, essential when playing online games with a VPN. In our CyberGhost test, we got a lot of fun hours on Black Ops 7 and a few other popular titles.

When it comes to cloud gaming, this isn’t the best performer. Testing it with Nvidia GeForce Now, we did notice some lagging and input delay, which negatively influenced our gaming experience. That’s not a big downside, as not many people enjoy cloud gaming primarily due to its input lag and a few other issues.

CyberGhost Review: Torrenting and P2P

Torrenting and P2P are some of the most important features of CyberGhost. It has dedicated torrenting servers – to be precise, at least a thousand. If you’re a torrenting fan, these servers optimize your connection for the best possible speeds. As proof, we downloaded Linux from a torrent site through QbitTorrent.

Cyberghost Torrenting
© 01net.com

You can see that CyberGhost performed well and allowed us to download the file with no issues. Thanks to its no-logging policy and rock-solid security, all torrenting and P2P activities are anonymous. Apart from speed, this is the most vital factor for P2P and torrenting in this CyberGhost VPN review.

Can CyberGhost VPN Bypass Censorship?

The main downside of CyberGhost in this review is its inability to work in censored countries. When talking about censorship, we refer to censorship in China. Due to its Great Firewall, China blocks thousands of websites, with a harsh VPN ban that very few VPNs can overcome. In the past, CyberGhost used to work in China.

A recent firewall update rendered CyberGhost impossible to use here. We understand why. Because it lacks obfuscation seen in NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, and other VPNs. Users in China or Russia won’t be able to utilize this VPN to the fullest. However, it works in the UAE, good news for those in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Servers and Server Locations

Cyberghost Servers
© CyberGhost

This VPN created a humongous server fleet of more than 12,000 servers in 100 countries and 125 locations. What’s more, its server distribution is phenomenal. The majority of servers are in Europe and the US, but other, less popular locations are on the list. In the US alone, CyberGhost has nearly 1,600 servers.

In Europe, there are more than 4,000. We especially like its servers in Russia and the UAE, which many VPNs fail to deliver. Surprisingly, other African countries are also on the list. You have Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and other locations here, making its African server coverage among the best in the business.

Cyberghost Dedicated Servers

The VPN virtual servers, where it can’t set up a proper physical infrastructure of servers, for a variety of reasons. However, these servers perform well, with no difference compared to their physical counterparts.

CyberGhost Review: Customer Support Quality

Our CyberGhost review of customer support ended on a good note. For one, it’s easy to get in touch via a 24/7 live chat support widget. Then, you can also use email. In any case, its support is multilingual, and it speaks French, German, and English. Regardless of the method you use, response times are impressive.

Cyberghost Review Support
© 01net.com

Live chat support responds in thirty seconds, while email support responds in ten minutes. English support is the most available, with German and French departments being absent in a few instances. Even if that happens, you have the Help Center and its Privacy Hub, where you’ll find tutorials and other answers.

What We Don’t Like About CyberGhost?

Before concluding this CyberGhost review for 2026, let’s discuss the negatives. Our biggest gripe with it is that it doesn’t work in China despite being an excellent VPN overall. Its apps, particularly on desktop, are a bit confusing, as well. It’s also strange that CyberGhost limited its simultaneous connections to seven.

Surfshark (we compared it to CyberGhost) offers unlimited and costs less. We expected more from its Netflix-unblocking prowess, considering its dedicated streaming servers. However, these complaints aren’t major for the most part. We must consider the price, way lower than the best VPNs (NordVPN and ExpressVPN).

CyberGhost Review Conclusion: The #1 Affordable VPN

With everything said, we conclude this CyberGhost test and review positively. This is the best affordable VPN, with an amazing value for the money. In fact, it’s much better than some significantly more expensive VPNs. It gives you one of the largest server fleets and impressive speeds, it’s torrent-friendly, and secure.

With its no-logs policy, affordable prices, and extensive device support, CyberGhost will satisfy a vast majority of users. Don’t forget about the fact that you can further reduce the price of this VPN and get its cheapest deal through 01net. If you’re on a budget, this is your chance – go and test CyberGhost risk-free.
