Best VPN for Roblox in 2026

Roblox is blocked more widely than it was a year ago. Turkey, Russia, Qatar, Iraq, and Algeria have all closed access since 2024, and schools and offices have blocked it for longer than that. A VPN changes the IP address your connection arrives from, and that restores the platform on a filtered network or in a country that blocks it. Five apps went through our testing.

Where Roblox Is Blocked in 2026

The list of countries where Roblox doesn’t load has grown considerably:

• Turkey blocked it in August 2024 by criminal court order. Roblox has since registered a Turkish company and met most of the conditions set, though only a fresh court ruling can restore access.
• Russia blocked it in 2025, closing off around 18 million monthly users.
• Qatar, Iraq, Algeria and Palestine followed during 2025, each citing content unsuitable for children.
• China has blocked the global version since the Tencent-operated Chinese edition closed in 2021. The Great Firewall requires obfuscation, so only apps offering it connect at all.
• North Korea, Jordan, and the UAE restrict it, with the UAE restricting Roblox intermittently.

Roblox’s Age Check and What a VPN Can’t Do

Since January 2026, Roblox requires an age check before a player can use chat. The rollout began in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands in December 2025 and covered the rest of the world, starting with the US in January. Around 51% of players had completed it by the first quarter of 2026. The check runs through Persona, a third-party verification company, and offers two methods.

Facial age estimation takes a short video selfie with live prompts to turn your head, then estimates your age and deletes the footage. Players aged 13 and over can submit a government ID instead, and linked parents can verify a child through parental controls. The result sorts accounts into six bands, from 5-8 up to 21+, and chat is limited to your own band and below. A VPN doesn’t defeat this.

The check is attached to the account and runs on biometrics, so changing the country a connection comes from has no effect on it. A VPN solves a different problem on Roblox: it restores access where a network or a country blocks the platform.

We measured ping from a Windows 11 machine in Europe to each app’s German server, the nearest location to our test rig, then signed in to Roblox and played on US and European servers.

How Each VPN Handled Roblox

1. NordVPN: Best for Blocked Networks

NordVPN measured 34 ms on its German server, the lowest of the five, and Roblox loaded and played on every server we tried it from. Its network spans 149 countries, so finding one where Roblox operates normally takes a search box and a click. Two features put it first for Roblox specifically. NordWhisper disguises the connection on a school or office network that screens for VPN use, and obfuscated servers do the same job against national firewalls in China and Russia.

Meshnet links your own devices as though they shared a network, which players use to host private sessions with friends. Threat Protection blocks the scam links that circulate in Roblox chat, and independent auditors have examined its logging practices. The Windows app has one recurring fault: with a second VPN installed, it sometimes won’t connect until that app is removed.

2. Proton VPN: Strongest Privacy Toolkit

Proton VPN answers to Swiss law, which puts it outside EU data retention, and its apps are open-source with independent audits behind the no-log claim. Roblox accounts belong mostly to children, and an independent audit is the only privacy claim that can be verified. Coverage spans 149 countries, the same figure as NordVPN. Its German server measured 47 ms, the highest here, which costs nothing on Roblox and would matter on a shooter.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for Fast Setup

ExpressVPN requires no configuration, which suits a page where a good share of users are teenagers installing a VPN for the first time. Pick a country, press the button, open Roblox. Ping measured 38 ms on the German server, and every connection is obfuscated with no setting to find. Its Chromebook app is worth a mention, since Roblox is blocked on school-issued Chromebooks more often than on personal laptops.

Lightway Turbo is a toggle that sends data across multiple lanes at once, currently Windows-only, with other systems announced. Servers are RAM-only, and the no-log policy was proven the hard way when police seized an ExpressVPN server in Turkey and recovered nothing. The settings menu is short, with a protocol picker and a kill switch.

4. CyberGhost: Best Long Refund Window

CyberGhost allows 45 days to claim a refund, six weeks of real use before committing, which is longer than any rival here. Ping on its German server was 36 ms, second only to NordVPN. CyberGhost also labels gaming servers in the UK, the US, Germany and France. Those are its least busy servers, so the saving on a latency-tolerant game like Roblox comes to a couple of milliseconds. Its server count is among the largest in the industry, across more than 100 countries.

Smart rules automate the connection, so the app can open with the system, pick a server, and connect with no input. That saves a step on a shared family computer. NoSpy servers are owned and operated by CyberGhost in Romania instead of rented from a host, and a transparency report follows every quarter. Seven simultaneous devices is the lowest allowance among these five. It also has no obfuscation, which rules it out for Roblox in China or Russia.

5. Surfshark: Best for Unlimited Devices

Surfshark places no limit on simultaneous connections, so one subscription covers every device in a household where several children play. Its German server measured 44 ms. NoBorders detects a restricted network and adjusts automatically, and Camouflage Mode disguises the traffic, so together they open Roblox on school Wi-Fi. Rotating IP changes your address periodically during a session without dropping the connection, and MultiHop sends traffic through two countries.

The no-log policy has been audited by Deloitte. The fault we noticed is the connection itself: it occasionally takes 10 to 15 seconds to establish, longer than the others and irritating if the app drops mid-session. Unblocking Roblox on a School Network

School and workplace networks block Roblox at the DNS or firewall level, and a VPN answers that by encrypting the request and sending it through its own DNS. Two conditions decide whether it works.

• Use your own device. A school-issued laptop usually blocks app installation, and installing software on hardware you don’t own is a disciplinary matter regardless of whether it works. A personal phone or laptop on the school Wi-Fi is the straightforward case.
• Enable obfuscation first. Managed networks increasingly detect VPN traffic and block the connection itself as well as Roblox. NordWhisper, Proton VPN’s Stealth, and Surfshark’s Camouflage Mode each disguise the connection as ordinary browsing. A proxy is the alternative some players try, and it works only inside a browser, which means no Roblox app and no encryption.

Does a VPN Reduce Roblox Lag?

Usually not, and it doesn’t have to. Roblox tolerates latency well, so the spread we measured, from 34 ms to 47 ms, is invisible in a game of Blox Fruits or Brookhaven. Adding a server between your device and Roblox adds distance, and distance adds ping. The exception is ISP throttling. Where an internet provider slows gaming traffic deliberately, encryption hides what the traffic is, and the connection stops being throttled.

That produces a genuine improvement, and it’s the only case where a VPN makes Roblox faster. Console players face a different problem, since neither platform supports VPN apps, and our Xbox VPN guide covers the router setup that solves it.

Keeping a Child Safe on Roblox

Roblox built the age check in response to lawsuits over grooming and inappropriate content, and the system helps without solving the problem. The age estimate is off by about 1.4 years on average, and determined users have fooled it. A VPN has a narrow role here. It hides the home IP address from other players, and IP addresses have been used to locate and harass children.

It also blocks known malicious links through Threat Protection or NetShield, but does nothing about who your child talks to. The parental controls do that, and they’re the settings to configure first: linked parent accounts, chat restrictions by age band, and spending limits. Treat the VPN as one layer under those, and the same account covers the family’s other devices.

Should You Use a Free VPN for Roblox?

For most players, no. Free plans cap monthly data, and a few hours of Roblox consumes a meaningful share of a 10 GB allowance. They also concentrate users on a handful of servers, which increases ping on exactly the connection you want fast. Country blocks and school firewalls stop Roblox from loading for millions of players, and a VPN answers both by changing where the connection appears to come from. It doesn’t answer the age check, and no app here claims to.
