How to Get an Italian IP Address? This Method Works 100%

Living outside of Italy prevents you from enjoying some of the most breathtaking vistas and pieces of art as well as enjoying the Italian internet space. Thus, watching Rai TV or binging Netflix Italy will be impossible as a result.

The good news is that, by knowing how to get an Italian IP address, you can at least access this country’s streaming platforms, betting sites, and TV channels no matter your location. However, getting an Italian IP requires a VPN, which I’ll explain in the following article.

Today, my task is to give you a step-by-step guide to changing your IP to Italy and explain how to use a VPN to achieve this effect. Believe me – it’s very easy and it takes less than a few minutes, so I’m sure you have that much time to spare.

How to Get an Italian IP Address – Tutorial

Let me clarify that a VPN is the best, and pretty much the only way to get an IP from Italy. This service lets you change your IP address to another country, which changes your online location to that country as well.

However, in addition to that, it also routes your traffic through an encrypted tunnel, which makes your browsing anonymous. This means that your ISP can’t see what you’re doing and because you’ve changed your location, you can bypass geo-restrictions and enjoy online freedom.

Which VPNs Do We Recommend?

Every VPN that has LOTS of servers in Italy is a good one, as long as it’s capable of bypassing geo-blocks and keeping you safe and secure. I recommend three providers for this purpose and they include:

1. ExpressVPN

The best VPN to get an Italian IP address is ExpressVPN. It’s known for servers in 160 locations, out of which, you can find dozens of them in Cosenza and Milan. Apart from the fastest speeds, it’s great for watching Netflix and enjoying anonymous torrenting.

Besides, it has 256-bit encryption and offers a proprietary Lightway protocol for added performance and security. It also stores absolutely no logs of your online activity, making it THE most secure provider out there.

ExpressVPN offers 5 simultaneous connections on a single subscription. This should be enough to protect all your devices and encrypt your traffic. This provider has everything you need to get an Italian IP and even 24/7 support through live chat, which will help you out if needed.

Finally, it’s worth noting that its 1-year plan is accompanied by a 49% discount and 3 months free, with a 30-day unconditional money-back guarantee. As a result, it can be tested risk-free without technically spending any money, as you’ll be able to get a refund in the first 30 days.

2. CyberGhost

A cheaper alternative is CyberGhost and it, as well, has lots of servers in Italy. To be precise, I’m talking about nearly 190+ servers in Milan and Roma that are great for streaming, torrenting, or simply browsing the web anonymously.

CyberGhost supports WireGuard which is why it’s so fast, and on top of that, you can enjoy its bank-grade encryption and a clear no-logging policy audited by Deloitte. This provider’s highlight is pricing, especially if we talk about its 2-year plan that’s insanely cheap.

Oh, and it has a 45-day money-back guarantee as well, making it easy to test it out for a longer period before deciding on whether or not to keep using it. Keep in mind that its monthly plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee, so either way, its long-term plans are much better.

3. NordVPN

The third and final VPN for today is NordVPN. We find this VPN extremely suitable for getting an IP from Italy, as it has 5,500+ servers in 60 countries. In Italy alone, you get 60+ servers in Milan, which allows you to change your IP effortlessly.

Much like the other two providers, this provider is P2P-friendly, works with the majority of streaming services, and offers blazing-fast speeds thanks to support for NordLynx. It’s very feature-rich overall, as you get Threat Protection, dedicated IP, and even Dark Web Monitor for added privacy.

NordVPN has a certified no-logging policy, 256-bit encryption, and 6 simultaneous connections. Aside from that, it comes with an antivirus in every plan and its affordable prices definitely do it justice. The 2-year plan is its best and cheapest deal and it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Needless to say, you can claim this deal through the button below and save quite a bit of money on one of the best VPNs for getting an Italian IP.

Getting an Italian IP Address: A Step-By-Step Tutorial

Let’s now see how to get an Italian IP by using any of the three VPNs. For this example, I’ll use ExpressVPN, but the same principle applies to CyberGhost and NordVPN.

1. Subscribe to a VPN

The first step is to get a subscription from any of the aforementioned providers.

I prefer ExpressVPN and its 49% discount + 3 months free for the one-year plan. Simply use the links above to get the cheapest deal, choose the payment method, and complete the purchase.

2. Download and Install the VPN app

With the subscription in place, ExpressVPN will let you download its apps. Remember that both VPNs support ALL systems and platforms, so you can perform these steps on Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, macOS, or any other device/platform.

This time, I’m using my Windows computer. You should know that ExpressVPN offers, in our opinion, the best VPN application for PC.

In this case, you’ll download a setup file from VPN’s website and install it by following the on-screen instructions. This process takes less than a minute.

3. Open the VPN and Log In

Now that you’ve installed the app, it’s time to open it.

You’ll need to log in by using the credentials that you provided during the subscription process. On Windows, it’s a password and username but on iPhone or Android, you can simply use the activation code ExpressVPN provides.

4. Connect to a Server in Italy

Signing in brings you to the dashboard – it looks like this:

And from here, you’ll need to get an Italian IP address by connecting to a server located in this country. With ExpressVPN, you’ll need to click on the three horizontal dots displayed below, choose All Locations, and select Europe.

Now, scroll down a bit and you’ll see Italy. Double-click on it (or tap once on Android/iOS) and you’ll be connected to the Italian server, which gives you an Italian IP address. Alternatively, you can connect to a specific location in the country.

To do that, simply click on the arrow next to Italy and you’ll see the two locations – Milan and Cosenza. Double-click on the one you want to get an IP from that location.

With CyberGhost, the process is the same, despite a very different app. However, once you click on All Servers and find Italy, double-clicking on it will connect you to a server in the country, much like ExpressVPN.

As you can see below, NordVPN functions the same despite offering a different application.

To get an Italian IP with NordVPN, just open the server list on the left, find this country, and click once on it. In a few seconds, you’ll be connected to a server in this country and your new IP address will be in place. Once again, the principle is identical to CyberGhost and ExpressVPN.

5. Check Your New IP

To make sure your new IP address is in place, you can use any IP-checking website. For instance, I use iplocation.net and as you can see below, I managed to switch to Italy with ease.

What About Free VPNs? Will They Work?

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend any free VPN for the steps I talked about. Free VPNs and their limited server networks often mean excluding some server locations. As you can guess, Italy is one of the omitted countries that never find its place on free VPN server lists.

With no servers in this country, you can’t get an IP from Italy, so it’s a pretty simple conclusion. In addition, free providers offer poor performance and bandwidth limits, and they’re known for heavy logging, which you’ll want to avoid if privacy is your main concern.

Conclusion

Getting an IP address from Italy, after all, isn’t that hard if you know what you’re doing. With a provider like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, or CyberGhost, you can change your IP address with a single mouse click and enjoy geo-restricted content or uncompromising privacy and security.

Remember that these providers also offer great incentives in the form of refund periods and large discounts. Thus, it can cost you nothing to try them out and get the aforementioned benefits, which I’m sure you’ll take advantage of.

FAQ

Having said everything, let me clarify a few more things about the topic through a few frequently asked questions (and answers):

Can I watch Italian Netflix with an IP located in Italy?

Yes, as long as you get it with a VPN that’s working with Netflix. I recommend ExpressVPN here because CyberGhost isn’t a reliable provider for unblocking this streaming platform in comparison to ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN will work with 15+ libraries as well, so you can unblock many other libraries like the US, Canada, Japan, and more. Curious to learn more? Check out our guide on how to change region on Netflix.

Is proxy a good solution to get an Italian IP?

No, it’s not. Free proxies aren’t safe, they have no encryption, and they’re often hosted by unknown persons who might be hackers. On top of that, proxies can’t change your IP to Italy, as many of them don’t even allow you to select the location.

If you can find a good free VPN for this purpose, it would be a lot better. However, since that’s not possible, the only option is to use a premium provider.

Does NordVPN have servers in Italy?

Yes, it has 60+ servers in Milan, which is far less than ExpressVPN or CyberGhost. But it’s also very secure, offers great speeds, and is capable of streaming and torrenting, so it’s another solid choice if you don’t like CyberGhost or ExpressVPN for any reason.
